Edmonton 2030
Edmonton 2030: What Does Our Future Hold?
Retaining our best and brightest is just as important as attracting new people. Edmonton 2030 explores Edmonton’s future. The video links the ideas of the leaders of our major organizations and institutions with the hopes, dreams, and imagination of Edmonton’s youth. Edmonton 2030 is a provocative teaser that challenges us to consider the many positive attributes of our city and how we might imagine them in the future. It reminds us that the decisions and plans of today are creating the Edmonton our young people will inherit tomorrow. How tuned in are we to what they expect and desire? What can we do to ensure Edmonton is in their future?
How Edmonton 2030 Will Be Used
At just under 24 minutes in length, Edmonton 2030 was developed as a 30-minute TV program. The program aired on May 20, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. on Access. It was also shown that day, in Edmonton Public and Edmonton Catholic schools. It was shortened into topic and contributor segments for use in recruitment and positioning efforts. The potential of the video as a catalyst for thought and action doesn’t end there.
Eventually, Edmonton 2030 will have a microsite link from the main Edmontonstories.ca website. The microsite will engage young people in continuing a very active and dynamic conversation about our city and its future. Written, video, and audio submissions to the site will be collected and shared through site postings. To encourage contributions, a school and youth program and contest will be developed to run through Fall 2009.
Harnessing the energy and enthusiasm of our community to realize the dreams our youth hold for Edmonton will ensure we remain vibrant and a city of choice. As proud residents, we are responsible to make Edmonton the best it can be.
