What are some of the local and international events hosted in Edmonton?
Edmonton is known as Festival City because we host more than 30 festivals each year. For example, the Edmonton Folk Music Festival is one of the leading folk music festivals in the world, and the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre festival takes over the city for 10 days each summer. In winter, we celebrate with the Winter Light Festival and take part in cool events like a star party and the Silver Skate Festival. Edmonton really has too many festivals to name, but it’s impossible to be bored here – there’s always something going on.
Beyond festivals, our city also hosts international conferences like the ICLEI World Congress, the Urban Traffic Safety Conference, and ICE: The Tech Conference, as well as many sports events. We’ve hosted the World Masters Games, the World Men’s Curling Championships, the Canadian Women’s Open (Canada’s only LPGA event), and the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada to name a few.
