How up to date is Edmonton technologically?
Edmonton’s commitment to providing its technology sector with great opportunities has resulted in an up-and-coming and collaborative technology community. Take, for example, the Edmonton New Technology Society (ENTS), a tech industry group who share a collaborative space to teach, learn and develop projects. Or there’s TEC Edmonton, a not-for-profit joint venture of the University of Alberta and the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) focused on helping transform technologies into business opportunities. The City of Edmonton has also launched an open data initiative to explore ways in which the city government can make data more open and transparent for Edmontonians.
Considering the support for technology in Edmonton, it’s no wonder that in 2008 and 2009, Edmonton was selected as one of the world's top 21 intelligent communities by the Intelligent Community Forum. We were cited for our historic establishment of computerized medical records, nanotechnology growth, and the partnerships between organizations that have commercial discoveries, yielding 70 active spin-off companies and creating over 1,000 new jobs.
So if technology is your thing, Edmonton is a good place to explore the possibilities.
