A Sunny Day in Edmonton
By Janet Simister
I really want to move to Edmonton.
I went on a road trip through B.C. and Alberta and I made a stop in Edmonton. It was in 1982 on a very sunny beautiful day in the month of May. I turned into this really awesome picnic rest area just off the highway. As I was getting myself organized, a couple came and introduced themselves to me and they made me feel so welcome. Next thing I know we are talking to each other like we had known each other forever. It was so awesome.
I was only going to rest in Edmonton for a couple hours and then I was going to get back on the road. Next thing I know I camped in this beautiful park for 3 weeks and I also went to West Edmonton Mall. The couple told me that they were putting in an indoor water slide and I was so overjoyed by the experience.
Edmontonians are really awesome people. When I was walking along the streets trying to get in as many sights as I could, people were going out of their way to help me experience their beautiful city. Now here I am 27 years later and I can't stop thinking about the day I pulled into the park and was welcomed by that couple. I really want to move there, so I have started to look into what I need to do to get the ball rolling. So, one beautiful sunny day in Edmonton you will see me walking down your streets, except this time I will be staying.
And to the awesome couple that went out of their way to make me feel welcome, thank you so very much. In roughly 6 months or less, I will be driving into your beautiful city and into my new home to start a new chapter in my life. This is a trip I am never going to forget as long as I live.
Edmonton thank you so very much…you have a city filled with beautiful and caring people. See you soon my friends.
