Cappuccino Affair

By Patti Navarro

This story/poem occurred on April 29, 2000. That is a very important fact as the cafe I mention is no longer opened. This captures a special moment I had in Edmonton.

After parting from my friend Ange at Movies 12 at 10:00pm, I decided to make my way to Cappuccino Affair (my then favourite café).
With a mochaccino in hand I walked out singing “You’re Just Too Good to be True.”
It was a clear night sky loaded with stars.
The Big Dipper was straight above me while I was fantasizing about Ilya (my favourite crush) below.
Being April and nearly spring...
The evening was crisp, cool with only a little bit of snow left on the ground.
There was no ice, no wind, no bugs yet.
It was one of those nights ...
The kind of night that happens in Edmonton once, twice, or if you're amazingly lucky, three times a year.
Perfect !
I felt not a care in the world as I smiled while I seemed to float nonchalantly in this moment of total happiness.
I realized it and felt myself swept up and away in this magic moment as I made my way home to Fort Road from Cappuccino Affair.
