Celebrating Success

Councillor Amarjeet Sohi came to Edmonton from India in 1981. He did not speak a word of English but learned a new language and has become a proud Edmontonian. In fact, he believes in Edmonton so much that he ran for and was elected to City Council in 2007.

He has a strong interest in multiculturalism and has furthered relationships between different cultural groups by being part of the Police Chief’s Indo-Canadian Liaison Committee, the Punjabi Cultural Association, and the Punjabi Arts Association.

The video below was shot at City Hall during the International Day of Sharing Stories in 2009. Councillor Sohi was there to represent City Council, of course, but more importantly, to learn more about new Edmontonians and to celebrate their successes.
