The Best Thing I Could Have Ever Done

By Lance Cazon

I came to Edmonton a few years ago with the dream and desire to help people. Edmonton has always been a waypoint. For me, a Dene from the Northwest Territories, it is the gateway to the North. I attended Concordia University College here. Many family members and lifelong friends have either passed through or live here. It is said that if you want to meet someone from back home all you need to do is go to West Edmonton Mall. You will find them shopping. I have been fortunate to have achieved my dream of helping people in this great city. I am now a firefighter with the City of Edmonton and absolutely love every minute of it. To be in the service of helping Edmontonians, and to get a pat on the back and compliments from my brother firefighters of a good job done, is all the reward needed. We each bring our own and unique experiences to the job, but in the end we all rely upon each other and work as a team. That is what made Edmonton the city of champions: teamwork. I have also been blessed with meeting a truly gifted and visionary artist here, my love, my life, and together we are making more of our dreams come true, sharing our lives and living for the moment. Moving to Edmonton has been the best thing I could have ever done. With all its diversity and opportunities, I am proud to call Edmonton home.
