From Scratch
I like plants. I guess that's kind of obvious since I spend my time studying plants, although they're really old plants, fossils from the Cretaceous era. So I really enjoy gardening. Even if we have been out at the bone bed working all day, I like coming home to my garden. And evenings are so nice in summer, because it's light until late. Sometimes, if we don't feel like cooking, we go to the restaurants near us. Within walking distance of where we live (in Mill Creek), there's Culina on 99th, or you can go to Red Ox Inn or Unheardof. There's lots of places. Langano Skies. There's lots.
When we do cook, it’s all from scratch, so I really like having more choices in where you buy things and the variety you can get. I love the farmer’s markets all over Edmonton and I use them a lot. We go to the one in Old Strathcona because it's the closest. But then we also use many of those shops that have local stuff. I like very much that I can get fresh cheese. And vegetables that are good and locally grown.
And I believe in eating things that are grown locally. I mean, I don't buy strawberries in December. I'll eat them if I'm at a party where someone else has bought them, but I wouldn't do it myself. There are so many things I think are so idiotic. It doesn't taste like real fruit, so why waste so much money on transporting things here if it doesn't really do it?
