A Place for Movies

Lights. Camera. Action! At the Edmonton International Film Festival, it’s is all about the people behind the scenes – directors, writers, producers – who bring stories to life.

Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) organizers love watching audiences connect with great films. And they hope watching that connection inspires filmmakers to go out and make more films. At the EIFF, it’s all about the people behind the scenes - directors, writers, producers - who bring stories to life. Over its 23 years, the festival has been attended by filmmakers like John Waters, Norman Jewison, Arthur Hiller, Werner Herzog, Don McKellar, Jorgen Leth, and Deepa Mehta.

The International Shorts category forms the basis of this festival. However, organizers also encourage local filmmakers with the Our Own Backyard category, which celebrates films of all lengths created by Albertans and people who grew up here.
