Everyone Loves a Farmers' Market

You may not know this, but Edmonton is a bit of a foodie town. The city is surrounded by farmland, and thanks to long daylight hours in summer, our entrepreneurial growers of fresh produce stock the city’s many farmers’ markets with plenty of locally-grown food. As you’ll see in the 2 videos below featuring Edmonton’s most popular markets, Edmontonians love shopping for seasonal produce and one-of-a-kind products.

The City Market Downtown can be found on 104 Street, definitely one of Edmonton’s hippest streets. In the video, you’ll meet some interesting vendors: Donna Borody sells preserves, Iva Dzerorik sells cookies; and Janie Anawanam’s a silversmith.

The Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market is housed in a 19th century historic building, and has been around for 26 years. Open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., it is Edmonton’s only year-round indoor farmers’ market.

In the video of the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market, you’ll see:

Kerry Frantin and Sue Stushnoff, in the yellow T-shirt and black sweater, respectively, who shop at the Farmers’ Market every Saturday; Steven Soutu, in the blue T-shirt, who drives to and from BC every week to provide fresh fruit for his customers; and Billie Gordon, in the blue ball cap, who has been a vendor at the market selling fudge and candy for 17 years.

This video requires the freely available Adobe Flash player to function.
