Highland Gathering

Edmontonians get out their kilts and celebrate Scottish culture every year at Fort Edmonton Park’s Highland Gathering. If you’ve a yen to listen to bagpipers and drummers, see Highland dancing, or watch guys muscle up for the caber toss, this is the festival for you.

In the video, meet the Whiting family. For them, playing the bagpipes is an important part of staying in touch with their Scottish heritage and connecting with other Edmontonians. Says daughter Lindsay, “It’s nice to see that people support us and that they enjoy listening to piping.” Her mom, Cindy, adds, “It’s great – you’ve got something in common with everyone.” Dad, Tim, proudly points out that Canada has piping bands that are doing better than the bands out of Scotland.

Also appreciating all things Scottish is Sean Langford, the guy in the green shirt.
