Keeping Busy in Edmonton

Edmonton. I love it.

I have known Edmonton my whole life. I was born here, I attended university here, I got married here. During this time, I have lived both in Edmonton and in its surrounding communities, and I love it.

Edmonton is a busy place. We have an amazing hub of industry here and that keeps my work life busy. I am the Recruitment Manager at Design Group Staffing Inc. and my job is to help people find employment. I have always enjoyed assisting people with their job searches. When I was a Career Educator at the University of Alberta, I lead workshops on resume writing and interview skills. My job with Design Group takes me a bit further, now I get to follow clients through to their job placement and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing they found a position.

Edmonton keeps me busy outside of work, too. A few years ago, I developed a “fitness mindset” and after being pulled kicking and screaming from my couch, I must say that I really enjoy being active! At work, I started attending lunchtime bootcamps with my colleagues. Because our office is downtown, we have easy access to the River Valley and it is such a treat to enjoy it in the middle of the day. My brother has introduced me to biking and just last week I was out exploring Edmonton’s trails, riding through some interesting neighborhoods and just enjoying the fresh air and green spaces. With our 11 year old Golden Retriever, I have even discovered Edmonton's dog parks!"

In the winter, I am into hot yoga – there are lots of amazing studios in Edmonton. I also started cross-country skiing. My brother’s bike club skis in the winter and we try different trails around town. My favorite one last year was in the Goldbar neighborhood. I can find things to do inside and outside in Edmonton.

When I want to relax, Edmonton’s social scene keeps me pretty busy. Events like Heritage Days and Taste of Edmonton are two favorites, I guess you could say I like the “eating” festivals! Music at the Winspear Centre is also a treat. I saw the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra with Procol Harum last year and it was incredible.

To me, this city is not just a place to call home, but a place to live. And I am happy to be busy living in Edmonton.
