Mill Creek Miscellany

By Colin Kot

Historical picture of Mill Creek RavineMill Creek Ravine...I can't begin to tell you what the creek means to me! As a kid living 2 blocks from Mill Creek, it was an extended backyard, full of trees, paths, animals, water and a never-ending adventure for me and my friends. As a teenager, it was a place to get away from the adults. We still have names like the Circle, the Favourite Spot, the Cliff, where we learned about life, love, beer, pharmaceuticals, sex, and serenity. Campfires and pole-vaulting. Biking and boating. Swimming in Mill Creek Pool! We even walked the culvert from the start near Connors Road to the North Saskatchewan River. It is a pristine piece of country in the city. And today, the bike and hiking paths that traverse the scenic creekside are second to none, anywhere! It is truly one of Edmonton's jewels!
