How Does Edmonton MOVE You? Winners

We asked Edmontonians “How Does Edmonton MOVE You?” and received some fantastic entries about how residents like to commute around the city. Entrants submitted stories and experiences about cycling, rollerblading, walking, taking transit and carpooling.

Edmontonstories and representatives from Sustainable Transportation judged the entries based on creativity and the theme of Sustainable Transportation in Edmonton

Congratulations to all of the winners and everyone who entered the contest. Keep your eyes peeled for more great Edmontonstories contests coming soon.

The winners are...

Mo Round - Grand Prize Winner of a 12-month ETS pass

"A pair of Smurf blue shoes were my inspiration to change my commuting style.  They were so comfy, that pretty soon I was walking to work and gaining health and financial benefits." Read the full story

Laura Delahaye - Winner of a $100 gift certificate to United Cycle

"We got rid of our car about four years ago-yay! We use a combination of bike-bus since then to move around for work, errands and fun. What I like is knowing the city so well; you can travel amazing distances on a bike. Seeing Edmonton's neighborhoods from my bike is much more interesting. My students in Mill Woods greet me as I come and go. I've noticed more kids riding to school as well." Read the full story

Jenelle Pederson - Winner of a 4GB iPod Shuffle

"After getting started, there is nothing better than zipping down the trails and over the bridge, being reminded that there is life outside of my bubble! There's lots to experience on a bike: the High Level bridge at dawn and dusk, the satisfaction of making it up that hill or a high five from a fellow cyclist. I've received four spontaneous high fives while biking across the High Level! Now, that's just something I don't think would happen in a car or on foot." Read the full story

Lori Sharkey - Winner of a $100 Future Shop gift card

"I work for the City & take ETS
Does Edmonton move me? I say Yes!
I ride in the summer and I ride in the winter too
I have a limo driver and my limo is blue!

I meet some really cool people and we sit and chat
We talk about the weather and about this and that
I've made lots of friends while riding thru out city
We look at the scenery, it is oh so pretty!" Read the full poem

George Wenzel - Winner of a $50 gift card to Original Fare restaurants and $50 to Transcend Coffee (George and his wife wanted to support local Edmonton businesses!)

"This is Adam, he's 2, and everybody on the LRT knows him. I think he's Edmonton's youngest daily downtown commuter. He proudly pushes the buttons to open the train doors, announces every train stop, and is the "life of the party" every morning. I only wish every commuter had as much energy as him."
