A Night Closer Than Our Days

By Maslah Abdirahman

Edmonton is a fun and interesting place where spontaneous things happen… like this one night.

It was New Year’s Day and my friends and I went downtown. I remember on my way to the train station things were getting better because my best friend started a song and it got popular and spread and on the train everyone sang that famous song, "Stand by me." Everyone who was a stranger became a friend.

We all sang the same song holding hands and hugging. The funny thing was when we left downtown after we saw the fireworks we still sang together with a lot of random people on the train.

Soon when the song was dying off and it became silent someone yelled, “Party at my place!" and everyone cheered on the train and soon I found myself at a really big party.

It was a fun night and a day that I won’t forget.

I remember the music roaring and moon shining back at me.

That day just felt so perfect. I had the feeling it would be a good night...and it was!
