The Rule of a Royal Dog

By Matthew Tognet

Within this city lives a dog.

His name is Cadence.

He is the monarch of his household.

Surprisingly, his bloodline can be traced towards a distant family – of country dogs! (He will surely refute the claims, of course.)

He is commonly refined in bearing and temperament, yet, as is the practice of tyrants, becomes agitated when his whims are not fulfilled. Usually, this consists of little growls (for he is a little dog), vicious tail waggings, and a multitude of condescending sneezes.

His favourite pastime is rumoured to include peaceful strolls; truly, he is often seen strolling the choice walkways within the Westmount community.

And he has good taste! The Edmonton region holds many nicely cultivated and comfortable neighbourhoods that make for soothing excursions. Rows of luscious trees create canopies fit for glamorous postcards, while the diversity of tasteful – and often magnificent! – homes lock the walker in a state of continuous curiosity. A walk in Edmonton is as much a stroll as it is an exploration, or adventure (with the obvious drawback of not being able to christen parks after oneself, of course).

Cadence possesses fancies, though, and he frequently opts to visit rustic locations. He surveys the river valley, with all of its lovely crinkled autumn leaves and its exposure to the graceful sunshine, returning exhausted (this being a compliment of the highest degree). His favourite outing, however, consists of a visit to one of Edmonton's 40 off leash locations.

Socializing with the denizens of Edmonton is what Cadence loves best. In his travels, he meets many of them. Whether the creature be man or dog, Cadence treats them equally: graciously allowing them to witness his affection. And none have denied him! The people of Edmonton are always considerate and friendly towards him and his retinue.

A royal city for a royal dog.
