A Spontaneous Decision
By Dianna Bowes
I was born in Edmonton and lived here for 30 years. As a child I shopped at the local Farmers' Markets with my grandfather, walked the paths and felt a part of the community. When we started our family, we decided as many young families do, to move to the 'burbs. I loved living in the bubble of the suburbs, the smaller town atmosphere, and really had no desire to move back into Edmonton.
Then with a spontaneous decision, we moved back into the hub of Edmonton after 20 years in the bubble. I have to tell you, I had some resistance to leaving my safety net!
Oh my goodness, I have re-entered the real world. I feel as if I am rediscovering my city. Little Italy, China Town, Highlands, the downtown core...what has happened?! This city has changed, and I was only a few miles away and had no idea. Around every corner is an opportunity to discover something new. Why anyone would leave this city in the summer for a vacation somewhere else is beyond me...there is an energy here that is contagious. I am going to vacation here this summer. I am going to be a tourist in my own city. There are so many activities I have never been a part of, and this summer is the year. With all the festivals, and the smaller events put on by local businesses and organizations, you could spend every weekend right here. I don't want to miss a thing...
