Start Anew

By Dianne Lopez

Having lived in Edmonton for barely 3 years, it already holds a special place in my heart because this is where the next chapter of my life journey begins. I moved here with my family, hoping to start anew. With its countless opportunities and blessings, Edmonton gave us a promising future that we could never have attained elsewhere. We bonded more as a family and grew stronger personally. Living here gave us the chance to do things and see places we haven't had before. Edmonton is special in so many ways, but I never thought it would grow on me so fast. This only dawned on me when I moved to Vancouver last year for a workshop. Eagerly I walked the streets of Robson, went around in Stanley Park, and strolled by Granville Island, but I still felt like I didn't belong. I longed for the eclectic Whyte Avenue, the historical Fort Edmonton, apart from the other parks and the grand West Edmonton Mall. When I went back recently, I realized there's simply no place like Edmonton. I felt that I have finally come home and this time, I'm coming here to stay.
