Why I Love Edmonton: A Poem
By Dan Lokhorst
If you're searching in Alberta for a place to settle down,
There're a lot of things to choose from in a lot of different towns
There's a giant egg in Vegreville, a T-Rex in Drumheller
The Trekkies trek to Vulcan, and their gift shop is just stellar
Our neighbours down in Taber have a lot of corn to spare,
there are giant ducks in Andrew and giant sausage in Mundare.
But if I had to choose a single spot to call my own,
Then I'd have to say it's Edmonton, my river city home
Edmonton has everything that I need to get by
If you've never lived here then just give it a try
Start your night at Winspear Centre with some Schuman or Vivaldi
Then you can stay up all night long at Whyte Ave for a party
I'm just guessing that's what cool people do on Whyte Avenue, I just go there for the comic books shops. There’re 2 really good ones.
The River Valley parkland is the biggest of its kind
There're a hundred miles of and trails for the arboreally inclined
If you're working in a building then check out the downtown core
It's got a nifty pedway so you don't have to go outdoors!
If you want to have some fun and shop while you're inside
You can go to the West Edmonton Mall because they've got 3 food courts mini golf a hotel pet shops an IMAX theatre water slides an Asian supermarket the world’s largest indoor roller coaster a really good comic book store a skating rink a robot dragon that breathes fire a pirate ship 20 000 parking spaces a brass statue of a humpback whale that you can hide in... But I digress.
So that's why I love Edmonton, it's where I'll spend my days.
It's nifty place to visit and a better place to stay.
And that is why no matter how far away I roam,
I'll always return to Edmonton, my river city home.
